NWDA helps create Aerospace jobs for Birkenhead 

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has awarded the CML Group Ltd a grant for £600k, creating 34 additional jobs for Birkenhead.

For almost 60 years the CML Group has produced components and assemblies for the aerospace industry for customers such as Airbus UK and BAE Systems.  Over this period, CML Group has developed its capabilities to comprise machining, composites, sheet metal and surface treatments.

The company is now looking to invest in new equipment to capitalise on the increasing use of composites and to increase its penetration into the military and business jet sectors. By 2011 sales are forecast to increase by £5.6m to £18.8m, while the company will grow its workforce by 34 to 220.

The grant awarded by the NWDA is known as ‘Selective Finance for Investment’ and is available for businesses that are looking for financial backing in order to successfully carry out investment projects. Grants are available for businesses located in Assisted Areas of the Northwest, for projects of all sizes.

Mark Hughes, Executive Director of Enterprise and Skills, NWDA said:

“This SFI grant will allow the CML Group to expand into new and exciting markets, positively impacting on local job opportunities in the area and maximising the opportunities to contribute to the Liverpool city region economy.”

Geoff Stewart, Managing Director, CML Group Ltd said:

“The SFI grant is a tremendous vote of confidence in CML and all its staff.  As we enter this new and exciting stage in the company’s development, we are delighted to have the support of the NWDA, and we look forward to delivering real value to all our stakeholders, particularly our customers and employees”.

The grant was supported by a team from Hurst Liverpool, who were responsible for the initial feasibility study, completion of the application documentation , guidance and support throughout the application process and in reviewing CML's business plans.
