Klimt inspires Arts and Crafts trail of England’s Northwest

As the first major exhibition of the work of Gustav Klimt draws the crowds at Tate Liverpool, the Gallery has joined forces with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to highlight the rich and varied Arts and Crafts heritage of England’s Northwest.

The Design, Decoration and Decadence trail links the unique collections of Blackwell Arts and Crafts House in the Lake District and the Tiffany glass collection at the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington with the decadent displays of Klimt’s work currently at Tate Liverpool.

A glossy leaflet produced in conjunction with the NWDA highlights the three world-class modern design exhibits, within just a few hours of each other, as well as a number of other regional gems. The trail aims to encourage visitors to the Klimt exhibition at Tate Liverpool to explore the other Arts and Crafts collections to be found across the region.

Gustav Klimt, Painting, Design and Modern Life in Vienna 1900 is a highlight of the Liverpool 08 programme and is expected to attract many visitors to the region before it ends on 31st August. The leaflet is available to visitors at Tate Liverpool.

Peter Mearns, Executive Director of Marketing at the NWDA, said:

“The Klimt exhibition is already proving hugely popular and with the wealth of fantastic Arts and Crafts exhibits on offer across the region this was too good an opportunity to miss. The idea is simple; if you like Klimt, then you’ll like this. We know that cultural visitors are more inclined to travel and we want to make it easy for them to discover more of the cultural gems of the Northwest.”
